The River Lark Catchment Partnership: Guardians of the River Lark

Established with a mission to protect, enhance, and restore the natural beauty and health of the River Lark and its catchment, The River Lark Catchment Partnership stands as a beacon of environmental stewardship. This dedicated group brings together local communities, environmental organizations, businesses, and government bodies in a united effort to ensure the river and its surroundings thrive for generations to come. Through collaborative projects, innovative conservation strategies, and active engagement with stakeholders, the partnership addresses challenges such as pollution control, habitat restoration, and sustainable water management.

Comprehensive Services & Unique Selling Points

The River Lark Catchment Partnership offers a range of services aimed at enhancing the ecological health of the river catchment area. These include water quality monitoring, wildlife habitat improvement projects, community education programs, and advocacy for sustainable land use practices. What sets this partnership apart from others in the region is its holistic approach to catchment management. By focusing on both the river and its wider catchment area, it ensures that solutions are comprehensive and address root causes of environmental issues rather than just symptoms. This strategic approach has garnered high praise from both local communities and environmental experts alike.

Active Locations & Community Engagement

The partnership operates across various locations within the River Lark catchment area. By fostering strong relationships with local communities and stakeholders, it ensures that conservation efforts are inclusive and reflect the needs and values of those who live within the river's reach. Community workshops, volunteer opportunities, and public events are just some ways in which The River Lark Catchment Partnership engages with people to spread awareness about river conservation issues. This hands-on involvement not only aids in achieving tangible improvements in water quality and biodiversity but also strengthens community bonds through shared commitment to protecting their natural heritage.

River Lark
East Anglia's Flagship chalk stream for restoration 2025-2030
A far-reaching plan for the Lark and its river catchment is already under development. The Lark has been selected as a Flagship as a national initiative supported by the regional water companies. This is a once-in-a generation boost for the Lark where we can celebrate 1000 years of bringing life-giving fresh water to all of West Suffolk down the centuries
The fundraising concert at St Mary's church will cross four centuries of music on rivers and water.
The River Lark Catchment Partnership (RLCP), a registered charity, will partner with Anglian Water on implementation of the Flagship.

RLCP's volunteers have worked for the last 5 years on river restoration on the Lark on many different river stretches. RLCP volunteers also carry out a programme of water quality testing aimed to give a better understanding of the state of the river and helping to prioritise where resources can best be applied to improve the river. RLCP works as the chosen Suffolk partner in a national citizen science water quality initiative to greatly expand the role of volunteers in sampling and analysis of our rivers.
